It's Ribadiso to Volunteer

It's Ribadiso to Volunteer

Since we are not able to thru-hike this year, we were wondering about our options.
However early in the year, I received an email from the American Pilgrims on the Camino organization.

They were seeking volunteers to support the municipal albergue in Ribadiso.

We discussed it at length, and came to the conclusion, that offering moral support to pilgrims would be a challenging way to be on the Camino de Santiago.

We filled out an application, and had an interesting conversation with APOC staff about what it means and requires to be a volunteer at the albergue in Ribadiso.

Shortly thereafter we were notified of being accepted into the program.

Next up we planned our time in Spain. We thought to spend 8 days prior to reporting to Ribadiso, and because of the caledar, to head back to the USA as soon as we finished our stint.

After searching around for cities to visit, we chose Leon for 4 days and then A Coruna for 4 days. More about this in a later blog post as I discuss what we want to see and experience in each of those cities.

That left finding a flight. Because of the new entry-exit procedures, and the horror stories some travelers have experienced on arrival to Schengen entry points, we chose to fly to Madrid, and then arrange for train transportation to Leon. This has the HUGE advantage that we won't miss a connecting flight or connecting train. Whenever we get through immigration and customs, we will figure out a way to get to Leon.

That's enough background for now. More in following blog posts.
